Lifetime Goals ~ Success ~ Happiness and Quality Parenting

As a octagenarian I would like to be able to think back on my life and feel that I have been a success. I believe that Ralph Waldo Emerson has the most accurate definition of success.

"Success" (borrowed from a Unitarian Minister ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson)

To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded.

We all play many roles in our lives. The role of a lifetime is being a parent. When I became a parent, my life became three dimensional. Children give us a type of imortality as a part of us continues even after we leave this earth.

It is important that we enjoy life along its path. Happiness is very important to me. The magic of being able to experience happiness is enjoying little parts of life as they happen. Watching your child succeed at a difficult task, watching the wind blow the branches of colorful leaves or completing a job well done.

Career Plan:
I enjoy my position as Teacher Certification Officer. Someday, when I get certified as a teacher, I plan to explore jobs teaching or being a technology coordinator in international schools. That will give me a chance to travel and experience new places and new challenges.
