Semester Paper Guidance

The paper should be 2500 words or less. You may include references, but they not required. Figures are encouraged, but not required. The paper should be uploaded to your Google drive folder by 5:00 PM, May 21.
Here are several topics ideas for the semester paper. Pick one of the following. Alternatively, you may choose a different topic or focus. Please consult with me before devoting too much time on the project if you choose to do so.
- Compare and contrast the following types of cyclones
- Midlatitude Cyclone
- Mesocyclone and tornadoes
- Tropical Cyclone
Points of consideration should include:
- life-cycle: initiation, development, mature, decay
- energy
- moisture
- motion (forces, directions, speeds)
- precipitation
- their place in large contexts of planetary circulation and the global energy budget
- Compare and contrast the following mesoscale convective systems (MCS)
- Squall Lines
- Bow Echoes
- Mesoscale Convective Complexes

- life-cycle: initiation, development, mature, decay

- motion (forces, directions, speeds)
- precipitation
- their place in large contexts of planetary circulation and the global energy budget
- Compare and contrast the following thunderstorm types:
- Ordinary
- Multistage
- Supercellular
